CAPACITY TESTING SERVICES

The Most Reliable Way to Determine Battery Performance

Capacity testing, sometimes also referred to as load testing, is crucial for assessing a battery's performance and predicting its life expectancy. With Power Storage Solutions' capacity testing services, you can accurately gauge the performance and lifespan of your battery system in the most cost-effective manner.

Capacity testing is the most reliable method for determining the rated performance of a battery under actual load and time conditions. It involves fully charging the battery and then discharging it at a constant rate while measuring the total energy output. This process provides essential information about the battery’s ability to store and deliver energy over time.

Benefits of Battery Capacity Testing

Grounding refers to the process of creating a safe electrical path that allows excess electricity to dissipate harmlessly into the earth. In power storage systems, grounding serves multiple functions, including:

Lightning Bullet Point

Accurate Performance Assessment: Capacity testing tells you if the battery can meet its specified performance requirements and identify any degraded cell before it becomes becomes a major issue.

Lightning Bullet Point

Predictive Maintenance: By simulating actual load conditions, capacity testing can detect capacity loss due to factors such as sulfation, plate degradation, or electrolyte depletion. This allows you to determine where the battery is on its predicted life curve.

Lightning Bullet Point

Budget & Replacement Planning: Capacity testing enables better prediction and budgeting for battery system replacement.

Lightning Bullet Point

Warranty Claims: Data from capacity tests is accepted as evidence for warranty claims, ensuring you receive the support you need.

Lightning Bullet Point

Regulatory Compliance: All battery capacity testing is conducted according to IEEE standards, ensuring reliability and industry compliance.

Without adequate grounding, energy storage systems—particularly those involving high-capacity batteries or renewable energy sources—are vulnerable to catastrophic failure and increased downtime. Power Storage Solutions is committed to ensuring that your system not only meets all safety standards but also operates efficiently and effectively.

Types of Battery Capacity Testing

Power Storage Solutions conducts acceptance testing, performance testing, modified performance testing and service testing. We can help you determine the best testing solution to give you peace of mind and the assurance your battery system will perform under any situation.

Lightning Bullet Point

Acceptance Testing: A constant current test performed on a new battery system after initial and freshening charges are completed. Power Storage Solutions can perform this in-house or after installation to ensure new batteries perform as designed.

Lightning Bullet Point

Performance Testing: Like the acceptance test, but performed on batteries in service. The battery is tested after an equalization charge. This continues to ensure the battery’s performance.

Lightning Bullet Point

Modified Performance Testing: Is a test of the battery capacity in an “as found” condition and its ability to provide a high-rate, short-duration load (often the highest rate of the duty cycle). This will confirm the battery’s ability to meet the critical period of the load duty cycle, in addition to determining its percentage of rated capacity.

Lightning Bullet Point

Service Battery Capacity Testing: The battery test equipment is programmed to apply loads to the battery which reflect the batteries designed duty cycle profile. This test usually consists of several current steps for varying durations.

By investing in robust grounding systems, your business can operate with peace of mind, knowing that you are protected from unnecessary risks.

Recommended Testing Schedule

There are various types of grounding systems, each designed to meet the specific needs of your energy storage infrastructure. Here’s a look at some of the most common types:

Lightning Bullet Point

VRLA Batteries: Should be tested every two years post-acceptance, and annually if degradation is detected.

Lightning Bullet Point

Flooded or VLA Batteries: Should be tested every two years post-acceptance, then every five years until degradation is detected, and annually thereafter.

Lightning Bullet Point

Nickle Cadmium (NiCd): Should be tested every five years post-acceptance until degradation is detected, and annually thereafter.
